that the name Taatsiaq, which today comes from the Thule area (spelled Taitsiaq), means the one whom one has waited to give a name.
The name often is shortened as Taatsi (Taitsi). Like in most Greenlandic names, the name can have endings added to it, such as: Taatsiannguaq, Taatsiannguaraatsiaq etc. (the dear Taatsiaq, or sweet little Taatsiaq.) The name Taitsiaq was also used among Eastern Greenlanders who moved to South Greenland in the 1800s.
